rendez-vous
  1. Before the operation

You will discuss the decision to perform surgery with your surgeon. It is important that you ask all the questions you may have to understand all of the implications of the surgery.

A visit or pre-surgery telephone call with the anaesthesiologist will be scheduled to discuss with you the various analgesic and aesthetic options (general anaesthesia, local-regional anaesthesia, etc.). If necessary, you may need to undergo additional tests (blood tests, etc.) or, with your agreement, your general practitioner may be contacted to organise the optimal management of your treatment.

A few weeks before your surgery you will receive a letter informing you exactly what will happen on the day of your operation. It will tell you what time you need to arrive, what you will need to bring with you and how to prepare yourself before surgery. You will receive a phone number to call if you need more information.

Patients taking anti-coagulants must stop the treatment at least five days before the operation. Your general practitioner will be informed to organise other medication options with you.

    The day of the operation

You will need to take a shower using Betadine on the day of surgery (we will give you a prescription).

You must arrive at the clinic with an empty stomach, that is you must not eat, drink or smoke for 6 hours before the operation.

You will be welcomed by our team at the Hospital de La Tour or at Clinique Générale Beaulieu, at the scheduled place, and they will explain to you in detail what will happen over the course of the day. Whenever possible, your surgeon will see you before the surgery to discuss for the final time the planned surgical procedures.

After the surgery, you will be taken to your room and the surgeon will visit you during the day to discuss the operation and its outcome with you. If necessary, you will receive orthopaedic medical shoes or a cast from our team.

If you are treated as an outpatient, you will be allowed to leave the clinic at any time, after receiving the approval from your surgeon. A sick note, a prescription and the date of the next appointment will be given to you before you leave.

  3. After the operation

Except in specific cases, the first follow-up appointment will be scheduled for one week after the operation, in Hospital de la Tour. The surgical dressing will be removed and replaced, scars checked and, in the event of percutaneous surgery, special corrective dressings will be applied to the toes that have been operated on. A team of nurses who specialise in the treatment of wounds and casts will look after you. Insofar as possible, the surgeon will be present each time the dressing is changed.

The frequency of checks will depend on the type of surgery performed.

Stitches are removed 2-3 weeks after the operation.

Patients taking anti-coagulants can resume their treatment, in accordance with medical advice, on the day after the operation.

The first radiographic follow-up takes place 6 weeks after surgery.

The specific rehabilitation or physiotherapy will begin according to the information you have been given, and will vary according to the type of surgical procedure.
